Coins
Homer: "Oh, brain like shiny things."
Bart: "Yeah great, these shiny things are called "coins". Whenever you get enough of those, you can get a cool surprise."

Collectable coins are a series of collectale coins that appears in The Simpsons: Hit & Run game which are collected by the player and can be used to purchase things in each level such as vehicles and clothes. They are small, Yellow coins that have the Buzz Cola logo stamped on one side. The coins can be found scatted around each level, with some of them loose, in boxes or rewarded after destorying objects and Wasp Cameras.

Coins can be lost from the player via getting injured by an attacking Wasp Camera, if their currently-driven vehicle explodes or if the player is caught by the Police during a Hit and Run. Any coins that are collected are transfered when switching between levels of the game.

Getting Coins[]

At the start of a level, the coins are left scattered around for a player to collect (especially in a preset path in most areas). But they can also be obtained by smashing Cola Crates and Vending Machines and attacking items. You can also attack and defeat Wasp Cameras for them, and gamble coins through Wager Races.

Whenever trails of preset-coins are collected in a level in a save file, they will not respawn. This also applies to coins gained from activating level gags which are also one-time per save-file only.

Coins can also be collected through damaging objects, blowing-up opposing cars or shattering Buzz Cola glass with Krusty the Clown portraits on them, though they will raise the Hit & Run meter if objects and/or cars are continuously damaged (save for the Buzz Cola glasses).

However, once your own currently-driven vehicle is destroyed, or if you get shot by a Wasp Camera shot, the player will have their coins dropped and can be quickly picked back up before they despawn (multiple Wasp Camera shots can hit you and make you drop coins multiple times). If police catches the player during a Hit & Run, they will be fined 50 coins.

If the player visits a phone booth and their vehicle is destroyed completely, and does not obtain a wrench, it will cost the player 10 coins to repair it to full condition.

Hitting/destroying objects when driving a vehicle however, can also allow coins to automatically be collected by the player no matter the distance via gravitating towards them. But if damaged with a kick or double jump attack on foot, the coins generated by such methods must be manually collected.

Purchases[]

The following are items that the player can use coins to purchase:

Trivia[]

  • The sound effect that plays when coins are collected was later used in the game also developed by Radical Entertainment, Crash of the Titans, along with its sequel Crash: Mind Over Mutant, when the player collects Mojo.
